META is considered a Non-Advancement investment with a mottled history of corporate lack of integrity, active support of injustice, abuse of influence, and predatory algorithms in products. However, they do have one of the strongest environmental advocacy and engagement programs and top-tier compensation for employees that don’t get caught in the sweeping lay-offs (recently announced mass layoff of 8,000+ workers). Social platforms are typically recognized for their addictive natures and deceptive data practices – which are accurate and fair judgments – but they also have the potential to connect people with needs, spread the Gospel, and facilitate meaningful connection. META does not profit on the good that can occur and their history of deceptive practices reinforce that the company views users as subjects to exploit and sell, but it is worth acknowledging the potential for good that can occur.
